International English School is one of the leading independent players in education in Sweden in terms of number of students, with approximately 21,400 students in 711 classes across 30 schools at the school start for the 2016/17 academic year, with students from more than 50 percent of the country’s municipalities. IES operates schools from grade 1 of compulsory school up to and including the third year of upper secondary school. Most of the schools are for students in grades 4 to 9 – internationally referred to as middle school.
IES has a clear profile based on three fundamental beliefs:
- There should be a safe and orderly school environment where teachers can teach and students can learn;
- Children should learn to master English, the world’s common language; and
- Students should be met with high academic expectations and aspirations.
Up to half of all teaching at IES is provided in English by native English-speaking teachers. Approximately 600 teachers with a teaching degree from another country – primarily from Canada, USA and the United Kingdom – teach at IES schools.
